Curriculum
The National Curriculum sets out what pupils should be taught and attainment targets set out the expected standards of pupils’ performance. It is for schools to choose how they organise their school curriculum to include the programmes of study.
At St. Wulstan’s R.C. Primary School, we follow a ‘subject’ approach to the curriculum as we have found that this best meets the needs of our children. This means that English, Maths, PE. RE and Music are taught separately
However, for our creative curriculum we follow a ‘topic based’ approach. This means that we group foundation subjects around a topic. The topics we choose depend on two factors: what areas of the National Curriculum we must cover and the interests and needs of the children. We use Curriculum Maestro from Cornerstone Education for our planning of the topics.
